Xbox a New Generation Discussion

Regulith:
"Xbox One" is literally the worst name you could give a console that's the third in the series short of just calling it "Xbox" again. "PS One" works because it's actually the first PlayStation.

I also wish they'd stop trying to shove all this media stuff into consoles. We get it, you're trying to be like a computer. People are still going to prefer carrying their netbooks around since there aren't any TVs you can hook up to at the local coffee shop, and if you're at home why not just...use your computer?
Blastdown:
according to this Wired article, they believe that Microsoft has implied that it is mandatory to install games to the harddrive to play. you no longer need the disk after installation. if you let a friend borrow the game to install on their system, that "that owner would be given the option to pay a fee and install the game from the disc". in a nutshell, used games would also require a fee after purchase. this rides on the assumption that it is required to install, of course. perhaps you don't have to.

also "(Update: Microsoft called Wired after this story was originally published to say that the company did have a plan for used games, and that further details were forthcoming.)", so i suppose we'll have to wait and see.
