Author Topic: How do I change my computer username?  (Read 1170 times)

I've discovered the reason for my minecraft problem. It's the ! in my computer username. How do I change it?

How does that work out? And why do you have an exclamation point in your computer username?

No. It's not your computer name has nothing to do with it.

I don't know. I just need to change it. java doesn't work well with special characters

he could actually be right. blockland had a problem with special characters too a while ago.

Right Click Computer

Properties

Under "Computer name, domain and workgroup settings" click "Change settings" with the little shield to the left of it.

Under the Computer Name tab click "Change..."

Enter Name-PC

Also I'm not sure if this will change the directory of your files.

Like let's say
C:\stupidusername!!!\Minecraft
might not change to C:\Spencer\Minecraft.

Or at least I'm not sure. Try it, what's the worse that could happen.

pretty sure he's asking to change his computer account name not his computer name.

Windows 8 64 bit

pretty sure he's asking to change his computer account name not his computer name.

then that would require you to edit registry files which i recommend for spencer not to do it, because spencer.

actually I'm not sure. which one changes the filepath? this seems like it should be really easy.

RegisteredOwner under Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion

ok well in that case.

OP, follow these instructions exactly as I write them.

1) hit WINDOWS KEY and the letter "R" at the same time

2) type "regedit.exe" without the quotes and press OK

3) click the arrow next to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"

4) click the arrow next to "SOFTWARE"

5) click the arrow next to "Microsoft"

6) click the arrow next to "Windows NT"

7) click on the folder "CurrentVersion"

8) find "RegisteredOwner" on the right hand side. right click it and select "modify"

9) enter the new name, hit OK, close regedit

10) restart your computer

-snip

it will also ask to restart i think which will hopefully change the directory of files.
