Both Starseige Tribes and Tribes 2 were released as freeware for Tribes: Vengeance's release.
The game has a very high skillcap. Everyone has a jetpack, maps are huge, and the majority of the weapons are projectile weapons. There are vehicles and stuff, and loadouts are extremely customizable (though everyone uses a spinfusor anyway).
Not sure about other gamemodes, but CTF is the most common.

As well as that, it's true what Chex is saying. I've played this back in 2006 millions of times. It was amazing experience. Never really ever got bored.
