Dear Esther is incredibly short.

Every game needs to be fun. Walking around is not.
If they had added, say, puzzles, the game would have been a whole lot better.

Come to think of it, all Dear Esther needed was a puzzle element, and it would have been loving awesome. Could have been the next Myst.

Yes.

Yes they do. A game isn't a game unless you can lose or win.

I disagree, Spec Ops: The Line wasn't fun at all, yet was one of my favorite games of last year.  I found Dear Esther to be great because there was a little mystery to it that went very well with the mysterious landscape, which also hinted as to why you're on that island.

Play it multiple times and enjoy the story.

It's always changing and so are parts of the environment.

Don't hate on it because it's slow, that's the point.

Don't get angry because you can't run, that's not the point.

Don't get pissed if you don't enjoy it, it's clearly not the game for you.

It's like getting angry at Proteus because it doesn't have guns.

define "fun"

because there are 100s of types of entertainment that isnt "fun"

its not always about laughing out loud or jerking off to violence.
there are magazines on steam. i dont see you bitching about how not fun of a game those are. this isnt even trying to be a game. its like a visual novel.
