Author Topic: GMod not detecting Half Life 2 game models/maps etc  (Read 18525 times)

I reinstalled steam last night and installed garrys mod and my half life games and left some other games like COD, TF2, terraria, etc uninstalled.
I went onto gmod after installing and running my games so i could get the folders for the games, etc.
It didn't pick up the half life 2 maps like it usually did before reinstallation of steam, it would get the half life 2 content put into gmod, maps, models, etc, but there wasn't any content coming from half life 2, there was some, for example the default hl2 content it puts into gmod, but it didn't give me any maps or anything else.
I found out the GMod folder was put into C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common, here is a screenie of the games in there:
As you see there is only 2 games that have to do with half life, half life 2 deathmatch and the original half life.
While in the other folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\myusername:

The games are there, but the content isn't showing up as it should in GMod.
By default content I mean this area:

As you see, you dont need half life 2 to get that part of content, but I dont get the maps in GMod, as shown here:

There should be a Half Life 2 tab, where you get all the half life 2 maps.
Why am I not getting the content from the games in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\myusername folder?
Anyone know a fix for this? I really need help on it because its really confusing, it is getting annoying as I need HL2 Episode 2 and CSS to work so I can play the GMod storm chasers maps without errors and missing textures.
I get the counter strike maps and things like that, but I'm not getting Half Life 2 maps and other content.

Will moving the folders in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\myusername folder to the common folder work?

Can you launch HL2 in that folder? Load up HL2 and try. If it has an update it could be steampipe. I have no idea.

What folder?

What folder?

Sorry I meant location. Try to load up HL2 in steam.

You have to launch the game at least once before it can mount. I believe this is because game content isn't extracted before the game is run, but that's just a guess based on past experiences.

But afaik GMod is having issues mounting some games atm, if that doesn't work.

Right click HL2:EP2 on Steam and click "Properties"
go to "Beta" and select SteamPipe
It may take a while, but it should mount HL2 and HL2 EP1

I've launched all games that have to do with half life.
It isn't mounting for some reason.
It mounted CSS fine though.

It is asking for some code.

You have to convert them all, you can't convert one only

Also, make sure to do the same for all other Source games like CS:S, and Portal

No it's not, that's an optional thing if you actually have a code, if not, it'll let you do whatever

Wait stuff, I got it.

Im having some problems too, it cant mount hl2 as it has a folder with a "-" symbol under it.

strange, I used steampipe beta only on HL2 Episode 2 and it gave me all of the maps from HL2 and EP1, however the only bad thing being that characters like Father Gregori don't talk.

Ok, after converting over half life 2 and half life 2 episode 1, the hl2 episode 1 folder is still in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\myusername
Why is it not moving over to common?

The NPCs haven't been able to talk since quite a few updates ago

But if you mean like in the Ravenholm maps, then i don't know what's the cause of the problem

Probably because it's only a beta, i have the same thing, but the games work in Gmod, so i guess it's not a big deal

Same thing with episode 2.
