No, a fear of weapons being wielded against you is a natural fear. Fearing a weapon because it is designed to kill isn't natural. Knives are designed to kill, but it's not natural to be afraid of one when you use it to cut up your dinner.

That's essentially my interpretation of Freud's quote. No, of course, I don't think of Freud any time I need some quote about psychology or philosophy, but I feel like he was pretty accurate when he said that.

they are weapons. weapons are made to kill people or at the very least hurt them
that makes them, as a concept, bad
if you find some non-murderous use for them, that's a different story. recreational shooting, at a range or something, or hunting for food, stuff like that is fine as far as I'm concerned
but none of those things call for respect of the weapons. not in the way you guys think they should be respected, anyway
at least two people specifically said that they deserve respect because they were used to kill people. that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard in my entire life
