if a ps3 has a messed up blu ray drive can it still play games

Dude, PS3 disks are blu ray disks. If it's seriously messed up, no you cannot.

If you hardmod it you could just put a new drive into it. But if the drive is messed up, no you can't play games.

upgrade the hard drive for digital games. Be prepared for days of downloading though.
