Author Topic: More RAM, Better Graphics card, better Processor?  (Read 2039 times)

RAM in general is overrated.  4 GB is all you need unless you do video editing.

I'm assuming it's a stock pc so check whether you can actually modify it first

whats your budget

you should completely build a new pc this one sucks and im like 99% sure you cant upgrade it much
because old cpu slot, PCI-e 1
i mean if you stick in a new gpu the cpu will bottleneck it, and the gpu wont put out its full potential because the slot is of an old version

its gona bottleneck like stuff

I know a person like that, except he owns the server so he has a reason to be in it 24/7, he has 11,000 hours on CS:S because of it ;\

I have a computer whiz friend who I'll ask about my computer, and see if I can work on it or not.
If I can't, it's not that big of an issue. I don't have a set budget yet but I just thought buying something that would make this computer better would be beneficial.

A friend of mine has a similer computer to yours. With your kind of case you cant really put a better gpu in there. From what I remember the only gpus that will fit and that the psu can handle was a radeon 5550 and 5570 (it may be different with your computer because my friends was a bit more powerful).

Honestly, save your money and just build something entirely new.  That CPU is not going to cut it and you will basically be dumping money into a dead end.  I checked to see what socket that CPU uses and it uses AM2, which basically rules out upgrading that.  If you put a new GPU and ram in there that is 200 dollars wasted on that computer when the money could be better spent building an entirely new one with better components.

I agree with this, because if you save up you can build something much better rather than fumbling with old parts that simply can't perform well and are behind the industry standard.

If you get a GPU make sure you get one that fits in that small case.

So I'm guessing my only hope is to build my own computer, because the one I'm on is pretty obsolete.

It's not your only hope, but it will save you a lot of time and give you better performance and get you back up to industry-standard so you can easily customize it after that and is better than spending money on an old computer.
