Slackware 8 is the newest distro I know of that can be installed with a Floppy Disk.
Thank you.

13.10 because i have no choice :(

So its kind of funny that I saw this thread because I was thinking about trying out Linux on my computer last night but gave up because I have a short attention span. I was looking at Mint because I couldnt really find anything else that looked like something I'd want.

Anything I should know before delving into this further?

I would try out elementary if you're trying out a distro for the first time. You also can look on distrowatch or some other site and see if any distros look nice to you. In my opinion, mint sucks. Unless you're using the debian version which I heard was really good. For my choise of distro I like using ubuntu, I think the reason people think its slow out of the box is because they don't install drivers, don't remove the online features (if you're using 13.10) and some other people say its bad because of its amazon advertizements in the dash. You can also remove that with unity tweak tool in the software center. Or if you don't want to do that you can install any other desktop enviroment. At least, thats how I use linux. I stick with unity because I like its feel. If you want to keep that current desktop enviroment from mint, its called Cinnamon
if you want to have it, try this:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gwendal-lebihan-dev/cinnamon-stable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install cinnamon nemo
I'm guessing you don't know much but yeah
or you can just try it out on a virtual machine.

another tip: never overwrite windows, you'll regret it. just dual boot

Alright so, I've decided im done with Canonical's  bs and am going to dual boot a different distro, but I'm not sure how to go about erasing the current one because of Grub and all of that. Anyone like to advise me in this?

So I might be changing my default OS to Linux.
I've used Ubuntu as my primary OS before, was wondering if Debian or Mint might be better due to it not having so much extra software preinstalled.

edit: I just got a new SSD and I want to move my OS onto it. I don't have a copy of windows laying around. So this seems like the solution.

Debian or mint are good

Although I personally am using Xubuntu, a lightweight distro based off of Ubuntu, here

So it's ubuntu but with less bloatware?

or you could do debian which is ubuntu without any bloatware

xubuntu is really nice.

Had to do some hacky stuff just to get the sound working, in addition to the hours of configuration and loving around required to start a Linux install.
Even then, games aren't working like they should.
