Its great that they're still making games for the PS2

Nah, but what is this game anyway? What makes it so "great"?

Wikipedia-pasta.

--- Quote ---The game is notable for introducing open world, nonlinear gameplay and a comedy horror theme to the survival horror genre. It is also notable for implementing a free-roaming storyline within an open game world where all the characters have their own schedules. It is considered one of the most divisive games to be released in a long time, and has become known for its "wildly mixed critical reception and headline-making strangeness." It is seen as a primary example of "games as art" and holds the Guinness World Record for most critically polarizing survival horror game.

It's a rather strange game but oddly satisfying and very captivating. It also has a large cult following and several fan theories about the mythos. It's a very story heavy game and I treat the game like a visual novel. Personally I think that the gameplay is quite boring and forced but the story kept me going. Occasionally there are parts where you shoot your way through some zombies to progress but those feel really forced and took me out of the experience. It's like the developers needed to put those in to make it "survival horror" game. I would categorize the game as a murder mystery visual novel where someone decided to stick in some unnecessary gameplay. It's an artistic game. The story can be kind of troublesome in that it's a murder mystery so anyone who has played the game can spoil the entire game in a few words and you probably wouldn't even realize it until you read it. If you ask me the entire point of the game is to figure out what's going on and that can be spoiled so easily.

For those that have played the game, yes I do know that the zombie (Not really zombies, I know but it's the easiest way to describe them) shooting parts are kind of explained (I think, I can't remember anymore) and they do have a point in the game but I still don't like them. If I were to play the game on PC I would get some cheats to make myself invulnerable and have infinite ammo so I can just blast through the shooty parts and immerse myself in the story.

Oh and the soundtrack. The soundtrack is amazing. Even though the game has some 50 separate pieces of music (This just blew my mind when I googled it. I actually though the game only had 5-8 songs.) you will only remember hearing like 4-5 on repeat. The game seriously just plays a few songs very often and I find it hard to believe the other 40 songs are even actually played in the game. The music is also very inappropriate at times (Happy whistling in a serious/sad moment.) but that just makes the game all the better. The soundtrack is stupid. It's silly. But it is really really catchy (Well at least the few songs you always hear.) and it grew on me after a little while. Probably everyone's favourite track: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OUP_Z3iZPs

That and York's smile.

A little PSA though. I've never played the game. I watched these guys' let's play of it: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLGxCL8JAojAMQPMkHtGVUnUog0ghkmmsE
