other games typically have at most 20-40 real time objects rendering shadows
this game can have thousands
you clearly know nothing about anything

lol
"PORT BLOCKLAND TO CRYENGINE"

Not sure what you are trying to ask but I can direct you to the "add-ons" subforum if you want to see the "possibilities".

It's a simple question and you're a smart guy, you don't have to be an starfish about it.

I myself am for a new engine, but I mean converting the game probably would be too hard for just Badspot to do it.

basically this is what all these discussions end up in.
we can dream but there's like a 99% chance its not going to happen. badspot almost certainly has a day job and better things to do than to give us blockland in a new engine.

which raises the question: when badspot is nearing old age will he make this opensource and/or make BL freeware? or will it slowly die in the dust?

Filipe:

It would be easier for Badspot to make some sort of sequel for Blockland from scratch on a newer engine instead of porting the whole game I believe, but still, remember the announcement of Shadows and Shaders? They explained that the terrains were not removed just for that graphical update but to allow more updates to come, who knows if Badspot have a bigger surprise for us, but in any case he needs more developers to help him out.
