Author Topic: [Forum Petition] Make the "Do not flame" rule more descriptive  (Read 4187 times)

So lately it seems like the only ban reason people get is "flaming".
Lets take a look at badspot's description of "flaming"

Quote from: Badspot
7. Do not flame - If the entire point of your post is to tell someone what an idiot they are, don't bother.

From this post i can get a basic understanding of what he thinks is flaming
  • long posts about how stupid someone is
  • long posts about how annoying someone is
  • long posts about how much you hate someone
  • long posts where you lash out at someone in all caps

now lets take a look at someone who was recently banned for flaming today

get loving banned

User was banned for this post

in this post the user block guy is upset because someone posted a gif of a cartoon man raping some people
in the forum rules it states "no nudity or gross stuff".
now even though the man was nude in the gif there were no richards shown or anything like that so block buy was simply mistaken.
but that wasn't a good reason to ban him.
in no way whatsoever was he flaming, all he did was tell someone to get banned for the nudity in his post.

so if that post counted as flaming then i think that specific rule should be more descriptive, maybe quoting some posts that were banned for something like that as examples so the (few) new users that read the rules know what not to do.

this is just my two cents about this subject, i'm probably going to get banned for my opinion anyway.

Your post seemed reasonable right up til here, then you just made it ultra-melodramatic

iirc bluecacti aka marooncacti has been banned for flaming before :cookieMonster:

Pretty much this. I do think that it was a pretty unnecessary ban, if it's not perma, then I'm not that upset.

"if you think you'll get banned for it, don't post it"

How about people stop using the words "forget" and "stuff" so abundantly their posts wouldn't be interpreted as flaming.

That and it makes you look immature and stupid.

No support. It's self explanatory.
By the way it says "entire point of your post" not "entire post" and even if it did say that "entire" doesn't mean "long."

I see where you're coming from.

But Blockguys ban there was fair in that his post was just flaming at someone.
Even "is this bannable" is better than what he said.
Or he could simply ignore it and report it if he felt it was against the rules.

I do think it would be nice if the No Flaming rule was slightly more specific and explained that short lines insulting or swearing at someone, like blockguy did, also count as flaming.

it was a perma
did you make this thread because he was banned and because he's your friend?
now, i cant be a one to proclaim the rules are perfect and that badspot is fair 100% of the time but seriously?
the rules are fine as is
if you dont think you should post it you probably shouldnt

make another rage video about this

In that case, what the hell? Is that post -really- worthy of a perma ban? If it was only a week ban to have the guy learn a lesson to not post something like that again, but really? It just doesn't make sense to me.

the cacti circle jerk sticks together, it shouldn't be surprising at all

Does blockguy have a previous ban history?

It's not uncommon for repeat offenders (even breaking seperate rules) to get permabanned.
It saves Badspot trouble in the long run.
