Blockland is 75% off?

It doesn't matter how small our community was back then, the game was still more active than what it is now. The keyword here is "active", not "player quantity", smart one.
--- End quote ---
The game is still active. Currently (as of 2:30 PM central time), there are 194 servers and 399 players on the game. I usually get on at about 4 AM and start richarding around on single player, but I woke up late today.
--- Quote from: Moonstar Akemi on August 12, 2013, 05:26:52 AM ---For your second line of stupidity, you made the exact same argument by saying there's 35K blockland players. Now you're just throwing random numbers to try and make yourself look factually correct. Also, according to RTB, there's only 36,989 individual keys - so you were close, I'll give you that.
--- End quote ---
I'm not throwing out random numbers, I went and looked at RTB. Obviously 35k is an estimate.
--- Quote from: Moonstar Akemi on August 12, 2013, 05:26:52 AM ---For your third line, you're randomly throwing around stuff about somebody trying to DDoS the site when I'm referring to all the recent events about people using exploits and causing Badspot to have to keep patching over things, thus giving him extra work he doesn't need. The patching is always an improvement, though. Regardless, he's a one-man team, if not a couple others helping him as well. But as far as I know, he's the only one who actually works on the game. I dunno, how would you feel if you were an Indie developer and some group of friends decided to forget all your hard work up when you've already got a lot to do just to survive and pay your bills?
--- End quote ---
I wrote about the one exploit that's out in my response. It's not a group of friends, it's one friend with a bunch of skiddies using his stuff. $20 * 36989 = $739780. Even if he only gets about $9 per key as some say, that's still $332901. Let's assume he does get $9 per key, that still breaks down to about $4623 per month. I'd say for 'just surviving', our humble indie game dev Badspot is doing pretty damn well!
--- Quote from: Moonstar Akemi on August 12, 2013, 05:26:52 AM ---Now for your fourth line, I think this was the most stupid of them all. This game could always use new content and improvements to existing content. What do you mean "What is there to update" are you really that stupid? What kind of game developer says: "Oh, my game no longer needs development. It'll last for years without it anyway with my massive playerbase of 35K (according to your poor estimate)!"
--- End quote ---
Most content is generated by the user-base, and I don't think you understand what I mean by content. Just because we haven't had an update in a few months doesn't mean Badspot isn't working on one, and I'm sure bitching at him to release it won't help. I never said he was going to stop developing the game, I said maybe he's taking time to figure out what the game needs to have updated, perhaps vehicle physics (Which I mentioned).
I don't see you trying to help out dear old Badspot out by hosting an original server to keep his 'dying game' alive. Why don't you go host a 'good' CityRP, or a Cops 'N Robbers server, maybe even one of your oh-so-creative deathmatch games! It can't be that hard to make with all of those years of Blockland under your belt, huh?

My active bl_id is 691, I was around then too and I'm not sharing your rose-tinted view
The only angle you could possibly be right from is that relative to the amount of copies sold, there are less players active now. But that's not saying anything at all, because no game will retain the same player activity rate relative to a much larger pool of players.
I'm going to go with what Badspot said to Yola in his "blockland is dieing" fit; you're growing up. You were a child back then and your views are influenced heavily by it. The game is larger than its ever been, and the player retention rate is pretty damn good.

Blockland hasn't had more than 600 players online since January 21st, 2013. We used to have some days in the summer with 750-800+ players. Why have sales been good but online activity been smaller?
The amount of servers has been going well, however, but the amount of players online has not.

399 players certainly isn't what it seems unless they're all hiding in their own servers doing nothing.

So are you saying MARBLE MAN got his exploits from Computermix? That the whole forum hijacking event was all done by Computermix? Also, you really should round to the next thousand if you're going to estimate. If it's over 36k players, why round it to 35k? That makes so sense.

Regardless, if he's making all of that money, he sure doesn't seem to want any extra help if he's the only one doing the work.

Alright, but that doesn't really clear up my point about the community's lack of creativity.

Acually, in a topic with an argument similar to this one, I have already discussed the issue that I had been building an original DM with Facechild and a few others before my hard-drive failed and took most of the work with it. Luckily, I have a previous version on my older laptop, so I might resume it again eventually.

I agree with this.
Boltster, I don't really know how to explain my view of it to you, but it's fine if you disagree with it. I just don't see how you think the game is more active than it was back then.

--- Quote from: Moonstar Akemi on August 12, 2013, 12:34:50 AM ---I think this game is worth no more than $4.99 right now. Back in the older times when it was more active, it was worth more the money. This game is kind of sitting steady in between the point of collapse and the point of growth. So far, I feel like we're going neither direction until something new comes around. However, with all of this stuff going on that's piling on more work for Badspot, I fear our chances of an update anytime soon are very slim.

Taking away maps didn't help either.
