Found a Nostalgic Game

After searching, quitting, searching some more, then finally giving up... I was installing some of the games from a GOG.com sale when lo-and-behold... MDK showed up with it's iconic slim black leather wearing character in odd headgear. I've finally found it.

Did anyone else play this as a kid? (Released 1997)

I actually still have a PS1 copy of that.
Never really found it interesting, and the controls were really painful on the PlayStation 1

They're painful on the PC too.
Every time you want to test a new control bind you have to restart the level.

Insomniac:

I've never seen that game before, although that main menu theme is painfully familiar.
