nope, it wouldn't
that'd just make some people have even lower BL_IDs than others

We should just keep the system. The BL_ID system is part of the eventing area of the game (VCE). We can track down people, see which account is connected to which person's game name.
A small part of the community itself, people like Kalphiter, are good at tracking down people/alts. ID's are important.
It's the people, not the ID's, that cause the elitism.
