Author Topic: Serious talk; Raging problem I've had since forever.  (Read 2577 times)

I can relate. Whenever I play TF2 alone I get mad at all the 2pro players who shut down the entire game. The solution that works for me is to play with friends over voicechat.

As far as raging goes for me, I usually just mutter "dammit" or "stuff" if I lose, but no yelling or anything and sometimes I do yell; I think nearly everyone gets pissed at videogames :v

Whereas my little brother screams, growls, hits things, throws things and scrambles to blame people for his rage, mostly shown when he plays that stupid league of legends game.

I think the only way to really get over the raging issue is to constrain yourself, or find a different method of exerting frustration that doesn't involve yelling or cursing.

When I play CS:GO or Planetside, I will comment on what other people are doing while I'm in a game by myself. Mostly it's 'why' or 'what the hell, what are you doing.'

I'm extremely competitive IRL and in-game (except when playing with friends) but I also have IRL problems with anger management and rage too which might contribute lol

I always play unconventionally when it comes to competitive games, it makes them more fun  :cookieMonster:
I've tried this before, It works in some games.

Playing like you don't care about winning, maybe like in TF2 when you play spy and sap the same guys dispenser all game regardless of how far behind your team is.
Or troll building AP malphite on league of legends or something. Doing unconventional things always helps it seems.
It makes it seem like I wasn't trying on purpose. If that makes sense...

To be fair when I saw this thread and saw it was you pandan I was gonna be a richard. But since you've came back whenever I've seen you around you seem like a pretty cool guy.

Back on topic. When you get mad about things I find it best to just step away from it. I end up getting into huge arguments with people because I just keep going. I keep getting angrier, mostly due to just arguing. It really helps when I just step back and try not to think about it. Even when I'm doing something and start getting pissed about it if I step away and come back later I feel so much better.
I appreciate the honesty, and the advice.

Yeah a lot of you are saying to step away, and I try to do that sometimes. But my ego gets in the way, and I don't want to let the other guy win. Which is part of the problem.
I've decided to stop playing so many competitive games. And if I do play them, I guess I just need to not give a stuff if I step away from it.

I've been reading every reply. So none of the advice is going unnoticed. Thanks everyone. Exploration is important for finding a solution to a problem.

I grew out of it. I used to rage and scream and beat the stuff out of my computer. I don't know what happened but at about age 18 or so I just got over it out of the blue it seems. I almost never get mad now and if I do it's like very mild.
Psh, you'd still get mad at me within a week. Even after you moved to Oregon or whatever you still had a very short temper when it came to me.

Anyway; on topic: the only anger I ever get while playing games is anger at other peoples' short comings. Like, if I'm playing a team-game and teammates are doing stupid stuff that's putting our side under. I can't play LoL or DotA/2 because after losing a single game I'll just uninstall the game like "Jesus loving Christ I'm done with this game forever" until someone asks me to play it again, so I'll reinstall it. But if it's me that's doing the sucking I just get embarrassed.

Off-Topic again:
I have that problem, but not with video games. I'm really bad when it comes to driving.

I get pissed off at other drivers very easily and use my horn often. If a driver does something to make me mad I will honk, tailgate them, flip them off, or any combination of those. If people are tailgating me when I'm already going a decent speed I will purposely slow down and match speed with other cars to keep them behind me. I've even yelled at certain people.

It just makes me mad when I drive well and other people act like idiots behind the wheel.
I'm the exact opposite, haha. When other drivers piss me off I'll mutter 'handicap' or something, but even in the few scenarios where I've almost been hit by cars being handicaps I almost never use my horn. It's just not a reaction I have, I have to think 'I should use the horn' then do it. If someone tailgates me, I'll proceed to drive extremely fast just to show them up. Not that I don't get mad while driving, but when I do I just don't really express it besides muttering to myself.

idk i don't do this often
i'll get frustrated at the occasional prick online but i can't explode violently as ive seen others do before.
usually if i start to get upset i'll just leave, i guess.

I get frustrated alot in games, but its mostly due to my OWN stupidity, and for that, I usually slap my knee out of anger, or just mumble a curse or two.

When I was like 13 and I got upset would hit my computer and pound on my keyboard. Then one day my computer turned off then back on again when I did that. I realized that I should probably stop but the damage was done. My computer stopped booting a while later.

One solution which has helped me with the video-game ragng problem is just eliminating most of my game time. I spend roughly 30 minutes - 3 hours on a game per day (much more on weekends). I've been starting to conquer it just recently though. A good game once in a blue moon is nice, but not several hours per day. It just becomes so time-consuming and it eats people up emotionally and physically. I've always been a really happy guy, but until I play a competitive game I get anxious and moody.

I have a natural tendency to be crass while gaming. And a lot of the rage feelings I get is paranoia which stems from me thinking that perhaps the other gamers are exploiting something I hadn't figured out yet. Other than that I can keep a cool head in most games.

You guys are so violent. O.o

The most "rage" I'll ever get is a heavy sigh and a stressful facepalm. Maybe give my desk the occasional light kick or two...

Call of duty is the rage central (as I've seen in CoD videos)

Bitches need some anger management.

I play Call of Duty occasionally, but it still doesn't frustrate me to the point where I yell and scream lol
