Type in japanese/日本語でおk

Kimono:

how could this be done? typing in the simplest alphabet (hiragana) would probably be enough to type, i have no clue how it would really work because all japanese characters are two characters combined (ni, ne, no, na, nu, nn) so hm

how would this work and if it could work, how would it be implemented?

The most "simple" way I could think of would be to have an extra font in the chat which substitutes appropriate characters.
