I actually have a friend who does this and it completely depends on the car and its condition. You don't want to buy a rusted out car that nobody would care about because you will likely spend more fixing the car than you'll earn on selling it.
I'm not necessarily talking about restoration, just stuff with minor mechanical problems and stuff.

both of my cars have insurance now

enjoy paying for that stuff

So I'm probably getting a car soon. I want a VW bug, but my dad thinks they're "gay" and my mom thinks they're too unsafe

Not the old ones. What year are we talking about?

bugs are defo girl cars

just like miatas

and mini coopers (sorry nightfox)

That pic made me smile. It's the equivalent of putting a kitten in an inferno and snapping a picture, trying to claim that kittens are badass.

The only mini coopers that are 'manly' are the rally ones.

@trinick
scion rally cars are better imo :X

On topic: I helped my dad pull the engine out of his car today. We first took the hood off and pulled out the exhaust manifold as well as disconnecting every wire from the engine. We then used lifted the engine out, removed the clutch, and painstakingly bolted it onto a 1/2-ton engine stand.

The car is nearly ready to sell as a roller...if we get anything for it since some parts are rusted out.
