it did happen to some other GTR owner, not trinick/trinick's friend.
The guy was going over 200 mph and the tire blew.

I don't think the article said.
If a tire is starting to wear thin, then yah, it's going to blow at really high speeds. Think of race cars, they have to get their tires changed very frequently because such high speed (and the cornering) wear down the tires quickly.
He likely just didn't have enough tread left on them.
