I've been playing around with the idea of importing a kei truck from Japan (or possibly a van, some of them are incredibly ugly but they're pretty interesting cars). Parts aren't hard to find for trucks like the Suzuki Carry and Daihatsu HiJet since they are sold in the US, but the trucks themselves are overpriced because they are not that common. The cheapest one I have found is a '97 HiJet with about 66,000 miles. The FOB is $495. Obviously the 25 year importation rule would not be in effect, but I wonder if it would work out because the same kind of truck is sold in the country... Who knows? It would basically be like a motorcycle and a truck crossed together, I hear they do about 75mph on the highway and most have mpg's over 40 |

I know about a Virginian guy who bought a Renault 5 in Ontario (I think, it was somewhere in Canada). He towed it over the border without any trouble and drove home with it. Although with the truck already being in North America I won't be able to find as cheap edit: woooooow http://www.autotrader.ca/a/Daihatsu/Midget+II/Eastern+Passage/Nova+Scotia/5_20753335_CT200415152835571/?showcpo=ShowCPO&orup=1_15_5 |
