well i am good with holleys and i have read about blowthrough but i figure there is more to it. not head gasket, think its piston rings. might as well rebuild whole thing. yes 1977

well you'll definitely find out if its a head gasket or not when you rebuild it.  Also if you decide to turbo it you might want to think about new heads, or getting the stock ones reworked.  You don't want all that boost pressure being held back by some extra iron left over from the casting process.  Also depending on how much boost you want to run you'll probably need new head studs and maybe even a drop in compression ratio.  Turbocharging is finicky but i trust you do your research.

Honestly if I were you I'd find a gen III 5.3 or 6.0 and drop in there.  More powerful, better fuel economy, probably not much price difference.

pull one out of a Chevy pickup truck or a Tahoe.  Not too expensive.
