I was quoted 4k/year for insurance on an RSX Type-S that I'd buy with a loan, and that's with loads of discounts, no tickets and no accidents.

Without the discounts/family plan I'd be up around 8k apparently, worst part is "The BIGGEST reason it's so high is because of your age and because you are buying the vehicle with a loan, which forces you to have collision insurance as well." ...and because I live in Michigan... So I'm forgeted no matter what car I buy with a loan

although at the same time I really don't want to dump more money into my Mercury stuffbox and deal with all the bullstuff it gives me during the summer and winter ugh highschool never prepared me for big life decisions

I have no loving clue how.

Get a car you hate as a winter beater.

Well now I'm probably not getting anything done on the car this weekend unless I do everything myself. Up to this point, my dad had been out there giving suggestions and tinkering with stuff. Last night, he said we can try to pull off the throttle body "tomorrow" (now today). Of course, now my mom is raining on the parade again. She gets so mad every time my dad touches any of the cars in order to fix or diagnose something. She says it takes too long and when my dad is around she always bogs him down with endless lists of stuff to do so he can't help me, then turns around and says that I'm causing tons of family problems and delays by asking my dad to help me with the car.

Now she has to go in to the doctor to get blood work done, and of course, she wants my dad to be her chauffeur. Now once again, I'm without help. I have work tomorrow evening and Sunday morning/afternoon and then school all week. Saturday morning won't work because my mom always wants my dad to drive out with her and my sisters to scoop horse stalls and do odd jobs around the property where we keep the family horses. If my dad would get done early, she will send him back home to build a bedroom for my sister. Sunday likely won't work because both of my parents usually leave to run errands which can last past dark, plus I won't be home until 3:30 or so.

So looks like I'm either going to have to grind through another week and drive by the skin of my teeth every day, or else I could try finding where my dad keeps his tools and I'll watch YouTube videos on how to do everything without causing damage to parts and how to take things apart correctly. What concerns me is my dad catching me doing it and freaking out because he really doesn't trust that I know what I'm doing, and I'm not sure that I do either. We've pulled apart the air intake before so I should be good doing that, but taking the throttle body off involves a lot more, including disabling the throttle.
