--- Quote from: Foxscotch on October 31, 2015, 12:11:22 AM ---ok I've been meaning to ask this for a while but kept forgetting let's say you're driving along the road a little over the speed limit. in your area this is a relatively normal margin, but it could be said that you're pushing it a bit then, you see a cop! do you slow down or keep going at the same speed? if you slow down, that's sorta an admission that you knew you were in the wrong. so the cop might feel like that is a good reason to pull you over or... if you don't slow down, what if they think you're being roostery, and pull you over cus they got mad? what do u do???? --- End quote --- I don't usually go faster than 5mph over the posted speed. The fastest I ever recall going was 20 over. I have had some close calls with cops. I can't help but sweat a little when they make a U-turn behind me or come flying up on my tail without any lights on. A few spots around the greater St. Louis area you can get a ticket for doing just 3mph over the speed limit. I know where most of the speed traps and hiding places are, but the cops are always using new ones. Just the other day I watched a new Camaro get pulled over for going ~70mph in a 60mph zone on I-55. I wasn't going much slower... Whenever I see a police car I always go exactly the speed limit, or a little under if I'm coasting down a hill. If you don't want to admit guilt and you have time to slow down then just let off the gas and let your car slow itself down. If you do get pulled over, it always helps to be as nice and cooperative as possible. I have heard many stories about people who do everything they can to ensure an officer's safety and in return get favors, such as turning their overhead lights on at night, telling them about any conceal carry weapons or pocket knives, letting the officer know exactly every move they're are about to make (such as getting their wallet, registration, etc.), and just being polite. The cop might let you off the hook, or possibly write down a smaller speed number on your ticket. I intend to do that when (not if) I get my first ticket. |
