Author Topic: Should I upgrade my processor?  (Read 704 times)

I'm on an i5 2500k overclocked to 4.7GHz

I'm looking at the i5 4670K.

Opinions?

Q:  Will it help run Port's shadows?

Yes: See (1)
No: See (2)

(1) Yes.
(2) No.

I'm doing just fine at 2.67 GHz, but if you need the extra power, go for the upgrade.

if you want to upgrade to the i5 4670k (which doesn't really make sense), you're gonna need to buy a new motherboard too since the old i5 2500k is a LGA 1155 cpu, and the new i5 4670k is a LGA 1150 cpu. thank intel.

I know about the MB, I can sell mine. And how doesn't it make sense? I'm not doubting you, but at least back up your statement.

although the newer one is faster by around 10%, the old one is certainly not bottlenecking your 670 (or whatever you have) so even after an upgrade you won't see too much of a difference, if you're lucky just 5 FPS. Not really worth a 200 dollar upgrade in my opinion.

The upgrade would be much less than $200. I can sell both. Also, I'm running two 670's in SLI. Don't know if those together could be bottlenecked.

Well, if you are able to spend less than 50 dollars on the upgrade then yeah, you should do it.
