Rank is universal, it does not affect your job or vice versa. Everyone starts out in basic training as an E1(except I believe people with a bachelor's degree or something of that effect start as E4). Also grunt is just a nickname for anyone in the army, like jarhead is marines.

Grunt is just a general term combat infantry. A tanker is someone who operates in a tank and a pog is someone who is not a grunt and works in an air conditioned office or is a dentist, mechanic, ect.

Join the air force.  Air superiority is everything in the military these days and the odds of getting your package (or anything else) blown off are very low comparatively.

guys where's that one comic strip where it shows all the different guys in the military and infantry was like "god, this sucks." marines were like "i want this to suck MORE" and then it shown a helicopter pilot going "gee, it sure does suck down there!" and then it showed the airforce and it was a guy sitting at TV going "the cable's out. this sucks."

You have to be a cop to do SWAT. A few years of patrol if you make it past probation and then maybe they might have a opening. If your County Sheriff Office has one, they I recommend working for the SO because you have a higher chance of being called out than in a single city.

When you become an officer you are monitored when you are first hired to see if you are doing your job right and capable of handling the job. If you don't pass then the department fires you, if you make past the probation period, then your job is now protected and they can't fire you as easily. It's just a weed out process.

Also the moment you want to be a cop starts now. If you have friends who do crimes, drink and drive, drugs, smoke weed, ect stop hanging out with them. They do a deep background check, be prepared to feel violated. If you have a facebook, youtube, twitter, ect they will check that, delete these things if you can if you have questioning posts. They will call any neighbor's you have, your old teachers, parents, relatives to find out what kind of person you are and your history. They will talk to your employers and look at your job history.
