i mean what do you do with it when you finish it in free mode? it seems the fun is finding what you need and achieving your build without being killed.
otherwise its just a modeling program

i find it more fun playing in survival, but for huge projects like this, i will probably never get the materials to make such a thing like this.

i feel the opposite. it's a modeling program to me basically. survival is just a challenge mode.
