wasnt criticizing it for its graphics, just using the timeframe of low-res games as an example. the reason people don't play doom nowadays is because it isn't anyone's cup of tea. i personally prefer goals and rewards to look forward to in a game besides finishing it

...and I've already stated why this is bullstuff and shows you have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to Doom.

That generally makes sense, but if we're talking about CoD: In terms of the campaign or the multiplayer? The only "reward" I can think of for the former would be finishing the [poorly written] story, while the latter's "rewards" are subjectively stupid and most likely the direct cause of an extreme lack of game balance.

Because you're an idiot with stuff taste it does everything right. The weapons feel good. Its difficulty is reasonable. The level design (for the most part) is great. No hand-holding here. You figure out where to go, and if you feel like you can do it better, you do it again. You keep doing and you find different ways of completing a level. You're not thrown down the singular path that the developers have designated the "correct" way.

Also, its playerbase continues to create maps as well as gameplay mods/source ports to this day. The game's almost 20 years old, I'd say that's pretty damn good in terms of longevity.

Bonus, the majority of the music is made up of Slayer/Pantera/Metallica/Alice in Chains covers.
