old games do lack.

vanilla doom? i could count all the generic weapons on my fingers. how many multiplayer game modes are there, again?

on the other hand we have battlefield 4. seven game modes, 64 players, and over 70 different weapons which can all be customized to hell.
this...
doom was a typical shooter just like any other game that is out right now. oh, so you're fighting national socialists and robots, and it's one of the first of its kind? well, how original, isn't it! Just because it's old doesn't make it any more creative than a game out right now

wtf are you high you dont fight national socialists you fight monsters
you're confusing wolfenstein and doom

all im saying is that you're not going to buy a game with good gameplay if it has awful graphics from 2001.
you'll go for the second best game with the better graphics. at least in the intelligent case

what kinda forgeted up standards do you people have where you sacrifice gameplay for graphics?

Vanilla Doom only had co-op and deathmatch, but the metric forgetton of source ports have some batstuff insane mods

as if 64 players hasn't been a Battlefield thing since the beginning.

70 weapons doesn't mean stuff if they all look and sound the same. You say Doom has generic weapons and you think your generic FK-U with your tactic00l rails on all sides is distinguishable from anyone else's.

if you can't distinguish guns from one another, you probably have a vision problem

By all means, the guns LOOK different. But they FEEL the same. Damage, recoil, spread, etc. They're not as distinct as the individual weapons in other games are.

no offense but the m249 and m60 kinda look alike

but then again that M in the beginning probably means they're related

wtf no they dont

...not at all, what
they pretty much all perform differently, as far as the games go anyway. comparing an MP7 to the UMP in bf3 would probably get you killed by a bunch of nerds

not at all, they have entirely different lengths and different loading methods for the box of ammo, their muzzles are (usually) set up entirely differently as well
M designates it as a machine gun, they don't have any real relations, the m60 went into service at some point during the vietnam war while the m249 was used in the persian gulf war

Admittedly, I haven't played BF3's multiplayer yet. My experiences of samegun (if we can have sameface, we can have samegun) are from MW2/Black Ops II.

I do know for a fact that the SCAR-11 and Krylov felt way different in 2142, so my faith in DICE's ability to make better feeling and more distinctive guns in the Battlefield series is a little higher. I don't remember much of BC2 because I didn't like it.

most of the call of duty games have super similar guns, but that's just a matter of their feel, they're skins
that's not a bad thing, that's expanding who you appeal to and appealing to their specific tastes (or at least trying anyway)

...not at all, what
i think what he means is that in other games, you get one type of gun(default pistol, default shotgun, default machine gun, default rocket launcher, etc) rather than several machine guns, several shotguns, several DMRs, several PDWs, etc.

well is it bad i get the m16a3, m416, and m16a4 confused with eachother?

industry standards

troodat

well is it bad i get the m16a3, m416, and m16a4 confused with eachother?
m416 is distinctive, m16a3 and m16a4 are the same thing

i literally can group all of the assault rifles in bf3 into 3 groups.

the normal assault rifles (m16, m416, ak, probably a few others im forgetting.)
the cqc assault rifles (fn2000, famas, aek)
the heavy assault rifles (g3, an.)
