can someone point me in the direction of getting a 2d sprite to navigate a 3d environment a la paper mario in unity

if you're working in 3d space on a 3d engine, use a camera that stays on one axis the entire time. the character will be a physical 3d object, but it will be a texture / infinitely flattened cardboard piece that just has a texture on it. then you can literally navigate from there

This is going pretty well. I'm currently tweaking the rules of how you get different lands (you can only place grasslands, hill and ocean) but I think what I have right now is a good demo.

is this your pixel art?  it's gorgeous

I assume this is some kind of god game or something?

madness interactive 69?

no
update:

finally have a basic body down

this reminds me of a flash game I played a long time ago

I have no clue what it's called but there's something just like this

am i handicapped or something? why he trip

pretty sure you need to lock rotation on the rigid body

1 for smg, 2 for combat shotgun
character appearances are randomized every time you load the game
game.zip
2.17 MB

(there's also a few nods to madness combat but idk if you'll get them xd)

Who is familiar with Unity specifically 2D unity? I'm having a hard time trying to wrap my head around some programming code and would like some insight into it.

yes this is how bullets work
