Donation Systems for Servers

Let's all be honest, finishing some projects we start is hard. Right now I'm working on a lunar high security prison, and with almost 88k bricks and an almost constantly empty server, there's not a lot of motivation to continue.
So some people use a donation system for that extra kick to continue.
Now that's not all bad, and some servers genuinely are well maintained and worked on constantly (ex. - Pecon's boss battles, whenever I'm on there are admins.) however, there are instances where this is ridiculous. Without naming names, someone told me the info for Tezuni's donation system: he's made almost $700, with $20 per person. I've seen the files and everything over Skype and it's ridiculous. $700.
Tezuni is never on and when he is he plays his own game as opposed to working.
Does this seem like a lot? Maybe I'm blowing it out of perspective. I'd like to hear other people's opinions on donation systems.
