Badspot hasn't specifically said that no one but him can gain money from server donations/server hosting, so technically it would seem to be just as if a friend you know gave you $5 for being a good friend. |

PayPal tells the IRS that they paid you a certain amount, and the IRS expects you to report that you received that amount. |
