When making a weapon, I set emap = true; because the example had it like that
But what does emap = true; actually affect?

It enables environment mapping.


I assume it casts shadows?

No, it enables the object's surface to reflect the environment around it.
Which Blockland doesn't use; ignore emap, like plenty other things.
