Author Topic: 8th grade exam from 1912 makes modern people look dumb  (Read 2289 times)

The arithmetic is fine. ( spelling is silly, we don't use those words in society that much).

The Health questions I have no clue.

I guess I shouldn't expect much from a website called "endoftheamericandream" that claims to be "waking people up"
9/11 was a false flag attack! FLUORIDE IN THE WATER IS A CONSPIRACY TO POISON US! WAKE UP AMERICA!

any test can make me look dumb

They are making us stupid on purpose.

You must realize, education was a bit more accelerated back then to get boys out of school faster and into jobs or college sooner so they could be in the workforce or army. Many boys ended their education at highschool, some before they turned 18. Also, when learning things at a younger age, you absorb the knowledge faster and hold onto it better.

However, it is still true that our education system is still failing bit by bit, mainly due to our government and the lack of caring parents and teachers (don't get me wrong, they do exist). This is one reason I enjoy homeschooling - I'm being taught by people I trust, know, and I can see that they know what they're talking about.

The Health questions I have no clue.

I feel like the correct answers to the health part of this exam would be considered wrong today. In the last 100 years we have learned so much about medicine and the human body that I'm pretty sure most of what was known back then was pretty off. It would be even worse on an exam for an 8th grader. Most of what 8th graders learn about science is simplified so much that it's normally not entirely true. Now imagine doing this to the knowledge of medicine and health back then, the correct answers are probably laughable compared to the real answer.

the questions didnt seem to difficult. but i can easily see how the average american wouldnt know any of it.

I never learned Pythagorean Theorem until Grade 9.
But that was such a basic question lol. The answer should've been 50 automatically in your brain without doing math.

3,4 and 5 is a special triangle. When you are given 3 or 4, the hypotenuse will always be 5. It follows the same multiples too. Multiply all by 3 and you get 9,12 and 15. hypotenuse of 9 and 12 is 15.

Also I'd like to point out this exam doesn't make anyone look dumb or stupid. People are getting smarter by the minute. Education changed on many levels since that exam. That exam doesn't apply to anyone and the only people who are stupid are the ones who tried this whole experiment just so they can insult everyone because they probably have a tiny snake.

And really? Spelling? Are you picking on everything? If it was an English exam that's fine, but because of time pressure and grade weight everyone makes errors. forget those guys lol.

The test wants you to draw sir walter rawleigh and peter stuyvesent.
Holy stuff that's not history that's art.
sketch also means a brief definition or something like that

5th grade, bro.  At least for me.

I dunno man, i just spent 2 days doing 120 question tests about spelling about spelling and grammar and stuff, then had a bio test where i had to explain how non-human biology and stuff works and a geometry final that wasn't just like
"What's this mans change?"
Also my finals last year, which was my 8th grade year, where much harder than this 8th grade test, they where just over different things.
It's easy to call a historian dumb when you ask him about biology. Catch my drift?

That's sort of sad, but considering the things we teach now are like %80 different from then... it makes sense.

lol arithmetic in 8th grade

"degree of comparison"
like easy - easier - easiest, good - better - best, etc.

read the first paragraph
this is why i hate sites like this, comparing knowledge back then and now is handicapped and ineffective if you're just gonna take one of their tests
