I gotta go with Kimono's. I love snowy biomes... plus it kinda looks better to be honest.

RPG Maker uses no lighting. It's intentionally very old-school in that it's based 98% on tilesets. You can use panoramas in the background (which I've seen games like Yume Nikki do very effectively), but neither of the examples do, and I imagine that it's rare.

I don't like either of them.

Those maps are pretty alright... I can post some of my maps later today... Not for the competition, but to just show my own style.

Here's something I did today in about 15 minutes


Bottom three houses look like tetris figures which is awkward. The outer wall is too thin but other than that it looks nice.


Comments on the second one:

  • Cave entrances look REALLY high.
  • Cliffa could be a little darker and more gray.  They stand out too much.
