Author Topic: 8th Grade Science -- Newton's Third Law  (Read 3210 times)

I think he's making us do his homework for him because he is asking us to solve multiple questions...

And this was made after school ended.
pffff nonsense

Pics or it didn't happen and I saw this question around the time school ended...

swat stop making the forums do your homework for you

you're standing on the ground and not falling through it right?

there you go.

It was actually more of an understandment type of thing.

It was actually more of an understandment type of thing.
Then where'd you get the question?

Think of it this way:
If you lean against a wall you're imparting force onto the wall. Easy, right?

Now what would happen if you were to lean, but without a wall there? You would fall, because you're a clumsy dope
The reason you don't fall over when the wall is there is because the wall is pushing on you, keeping you from falling.

The wall doesn't give a stuff how much force you're putting on it, it's not going to move at all. However, the exact amount of force you're putting on the wall (the force of gravity, in this case), is exactly equal and opposite to the force imparted on you, and the wall pushes back with that exact amount of force

If newton's 3rd law were not true, you could run into a cement wall at speed and crash through it. The wall would go flying, but you wouldn't feel a thing because there's no reaction force

but that would be cool

Then where'd you get the question?

I don't see what you're getting at.

Are you saying that helping him out on one question is too much? Keep in mind he is only asking us to help him understand the concept, he is not asking directly for answers.

holy forget, all the 3rd law says is that with a force comes an opposite force such as friction and wind resistance. not rocket science here.

The law states that if I punch a kitten, the kitten will exert the same force in the opposite direction I pushed.

But since I punched the kitten hard enough, it would move, BUT THIS LAW SAYS that two forces would go at each other in equality, meaning it would cancel the motion and make the forces balanced.

I need to understand this :*(

try punching the kitten harder

MY SIDES!!!

It was kinda ming breaking thinking about it.

Even my mom got confused for a while, and you are missing the par-

wtf friction and wind resistance has nothing to do with the 3rd law

By the way, it is opposite force AND equal force.

if matter cannot be created or destroyed, then how is the universe constantly expanding?
Because intense gravitational force actually has a slight reverse effect.  Black holes propel themselves apart by nature.  Because fusion occurs in stars, too, matter densifies.

I'm sorry, are the above posters not the same person?
