Something like that would be taken down so quickly though.

Jesus, people get so handicapped when something they get used to goes. This is what I think will happen:

RTB or a remake by Badspot is made a default add-on, badspot hosting the servers himself. This has been suggested as a possible outcome by badspot and ephi themselves himself on a live stream the forums somewhere.
If that doesn't happen, people will make remakes of RTB, probably with less features. Multiple RTB copies will exist, then after some time everyone will start using 2 or 3 to do everything RTB does currently. An inconvenience to use multiple mods maybe, but it will allow users to install only the features they want, instead of an entire package.
If neither of these happen, then people will have to learn to survive without it, which isnt very hard at all.

And all the people complaining that "we were told we wouldnt have to use steam!!1" if workshop does happen, you don't have to use steam. You can use the forums, skype or another IM, whatever you like, and in the end it would only be an inconvenience again not to have it all in one package.

Edit: Fixed some incorrect references.

the point of RTB is everyone had it
that would remove like
1/2 of the members.
