Writting and executing?

In one of the tutorials for Java someone gave me, it said to download the tool
"STS" Spring Tool Suite, and I did... but now where am i suppose to write the script?

Notepad?
STS?
Microsoft Word?
Some Java thing?

Notepad is the only one of the four which is actually a viable choice. Any plain text editor.
