what i mean is that, in the motion editor, it removes my cursor and whatever action i make with the cursor only affects the placement of the edges of the floating modification layer

that, i have that happen to me as well, it takes me a bit to figure out how to stop it, but i think what causes it is holding Ctrl or Shift while trying to look around the viewport, SFM may have the timeline window highlighted instead of the viewport window, so it'll create a selection but then realize what you're actually trying to do but just ends up getting you stuck adjusting the selection for the motion editor
...Or something like that, anyway, finishing the selection usually fixes it, unless pressing the Esc key also works
