So how about a steam free weekend?

Not sure if this would interfere, but...

I didn't understand this.

Still have the problem of banned freebies still being banned after the weekend. Perhaps some kind of update that forces bans against negative IDs to never be over a week?

their ID will be different when they buy BL.
The negative ID's are just temporary ones that will be deleted after the free week is over.

basically, Steam has a games library which stores every game you have installed or bought. some games are free, and some are made free for the 48 hours of Saturday and Sunday.
the matter of blockland  having one of these free weekends is discussed on this topic.
i think this would be an amazing idea and also very convenient for the players as Blockland only takes about 5 minutes to download on Steam. Players would be tempted to buy it even if their broadband was terrible (like mine once was) and it would really boost our playerbase.
Crøwn:
I don't think players being banned from servers should be an issue, just have them not have an ID or be as Bomb Kirby said "S1234" for the weekend and remove them after.

Playing the game for free doesn't change if they get the hang of it or not. It will help players find the game, try it out, and buy it if they enjoyed it. I can't think of any huge downsides to this.
