GhostStar:
good loving luck. how the hell are you going to simulate an earthquake in BL.
the least of your worries is getting people to play right.

Oh, they won't forget. and they won't forgive.
Alkatjo:
Ghost that's too damn easy. That camera shack event, minor particle effects. Fake kill bricks and velocity. Maybe having 16x16 blocks falling in the background ect.

All of you are overthinking this to a designers level. And assuming everyone in his class has no clue what Blockland is, won't oversee it for events and effects.
Alkatjo:
Hell, I think of it as like an on rail type of design. All the players go through maybe a house, certain parts of the house fake kill to -1 and maybe have something explode in
the kitchen after a set amount of time. All whilst you have some sort of rumbling sound/music playing on loop or timed events. Then you take your class of spray painting players and you move them outside, tell them to duck as falling "boulders" or 16x16s fall off a near by hill (Also fake killed to -1). Wander through a town until you spot a passenger jet, Arekan gets in the pilot seat and tells everyone to get in, after that use the vehicle zone events to trigger the ground to break, leaving you taking off in a cinematic experience.

Its so god damn easy. Fools.
Arekan:
I'm not going to brag here too much, but sound design is something people overlook way too much. Just look at the new upcoming game Routine. That game focuses a LOT on sound design, and even though it's graphics are beautiful, the sound design really caps it off.
And I'm not saying that is all I need here- I can't make something really cool-sounding literally be a bunch of red 1x1's fall off of a roof.

But, hey, I guess none of you know me. If I didn't know at all what I was doing, I wouldn't have asked to start the project in the first place.
