Author Topic: Is this a good computer?  (Read 3532 times)

There is still no GPU or cooling fan. I don't think it will run. And if it does, it won't last very long without cooling.

Please know what you're talking about before you go spouting off stuff like you do. That's an APU, it's a GPU and CPU in one, I made a ~$300 build for my younger brtoher using one, it can play most games on low-medium well. Second, stock cooling usually work perfectly unless you a. Have an awful case/ventilation or b. plan to overclock.

he thought that CPU's don't come with any sort of cooling at all

Well although my response was a tad harsher than I intended it to be (It's a pet peeve of mine when people give invalid info on subjects they don't know much on) I didn't know that's what he meant, so I apologize.

hard to use
You can't say it's hard to use just because it works differently and is unfamiliar. I actually prefer to preform most tasks from the terminal.

some hardware not supported
Sounds like someone installed the LTS release.

many games cannot run
There are many tools to run Windows-based software on any Linux platform, such as Wine or VirtualBox.

I thought the CPU was just a normal one. Sorry.

I still think I'll go for a different build though. I think I'd rather use a separate GPU. My current computer has integrated graphics and it doesn't work very well with most games. I don't know if that's the cause, but I've heard from friends that integrated graphics CPUs are not good for gaming.

Here is my computah,
Graphics card: AMD Radeon HD 5450
Logitech mouse and keyboard (they are amazing, check them out)
Headphones: (also logitech, i must be a fanboy)
Processor's : 4 Intel Core i5 CPU @ 3.20GHz
Hard disk's: Anything lad, try keeping it high on (C:)
And ETC,
Your price should be something about, 100 or 500 euro.

works with far from all windows games

i suggest dual boot; you can find a bunch of keys on sale for REALLY cheap all over the place

you have a completely different CPU (intel) and integrated GPU (intel HD). this CPU (AMD) is designed to run games without a video card.

you aren't going to get a build with a seperate video card for 350. not even 400.

what??
Long Term Support. The current LTS release is from 2012. New one is coming next month.

I don't think you know what VirtualBox is.

Alright. I'll take your word for it.

EDIT: I just got an extra $40. That means I have $221 and my dad is willing to pay about $150. So now the budget is around $371.

I don't think you know what VirtualBox is.
yes, I do know, but you won't be able to run games that good, since first of all, running 2 operating systems at once will hog up the system resources, and the windows box won't fully utlize the hardware power. you wont be able to run games at anywhere above 10 fps

I use LXDE which is the most lightweight DE available for Ubuntu. I'll get at most 15. I don't mind having a slow FPS on certain games. As long as it's better than what I have now then I'm fine.

Ok sorry :(

Woah thanks m8.

Also, I found a Windows Vista install disc. I can't remember if it was any good though. It's been a while since I use Vista. An old OS is okay for me. Some users still have XP.

EDIT: Is this video card better than the integrated graphics on the APU on the last build? I looked up the processor on CPU benchmark and it was in the higher end group. I didn't think I would be able to get a processor like that for just $72. I looked up the graphics card and it was also in the high end group.

I didn't even know you could build a laptop. Jesus, that would be hard considering the small amount of room given. Unless you want a bulky-ass laptop.

the video card is better than the APU, but its definitely not high-end or medium-end. closer to low-end, same as the cpu.

you cant build a laptop
