I was trying to event those on my race track.
They worked moderately, but they needed quite a bit of event lines to recall the players particular vehicle and hundreds of zones to trigger from.

A better system would be good...

everything sounds good except detailed tracks, my PC wont run them well
and probably a lot of others
speedkart is pretty much the only game that works well on my PC, it's sad

Anyway, checkpoints might be able to accomplished something like this:
 - Vehicle passes through a zone
 - Zone sets a variable on the vehicle to 1 or 2 or whatever corresponds to the checkpoint
 - Instead of hitting the water and exploding, the water teleports the vehicle to a brick named 1, 2, etc.

The code I made for the start lines and checkpoints still works.
