I need a good alternate voice communication program that isn't skype
jitsi i guess is the most similar
there's also mumble for voice comm only
there's a bunch of webrtc-enabled sites like
http://talky.io,
http://meet.jit.si and
http://otalk.im for video conferencing in the browser without flashplayer
How is Skype malware? I thought that was the go-to program everyone would use and suggest to others for voice communication
My life is a lie
well, firstly, it's closed source, which is already suspicious
but on top of that, they're trying to avoid debuggers, which only makes it more suspicious
in 2011, they've rearranged their network topology so all supernodes are owned by whatever company owns skype (microsoft, now)
which essentially means it's a centralized system (before that, only the login services were centralized, IIRC)
these two properties (being closed and centralized) are already two _huge_ red flags for any system
then snowden happened and revealed what a lot of people have thought all along, that it's spying on everything
not only that, there are backdoors for remote access
if you're on windows or mac os x then i guess you're screwed already on that front, though…
