mace would actually be blunt, the morningstar is has spikes on it as well.

well I'm just saying with a morning star the chance to die quickly is higher than a mace

flails are impractical as richards because they take time to learn to use and train with and require multiple small parts to be forged (no easy task in the middle ages) to function as intended
a morning star is by comparison much simpler in design with a modest leather strap and pointed macehead that while similar to a flail is easier to put into use
