Author Topic: MS3D - animations forget shading up bad.  (Read 18385 times)

Basically, I was making a playermodel and animating it, but when I put it in game this happens:

Do you guys have any idea how to fix that?

This board is veryslow isn't it.

I had the same problem making a weapon w/ animations

Damn, I also noticed something odd about shading on my weapons, too.
Are there any workarounds for this problem?

try smoothing all faces, then smooth and/or flatshading all of your faces

Animations don't forget up for me like this.

I tried smoothshading, and it didn't work for me. :(

Does it look ok without any animations?

New model, no animations, only joints.
Still loving atrocious.

Here's an .ms3d of this model:

And then I tested with another model of a bunch of shapes, all of which were jointed together, and - see for yourself -

It's loving perfect.

Here's the .ms3d for the test shape.

Has nothing to do with animations, the normals are just pointing in the wrong directions. No idea how to fix that in Milkshape though.

Usually doing "Smooth All" fixes it, for some reason it didn't work in this case.

I got the same problem too lol..Guess you should try making it in blender.. :0

I can understand modeling in MS3D, but when it comes to animating MS3D is just terrible.

Exporting in Blender is a major pain in the ass, though, and I'd have to animate in an outdated version of it which loving sucks.

Tbh animating in 2.49 isn't that much different than it is now. That's one thing they've kept pretty consistent.

But yeah, exporting can be a pain. Doesn't have to be, but it can be.
