Author Topic: Modular Terrain Tutorial  (Read 1116 times)

I need some help using modular terrain if anybody has time to teach me ingame that would be cool.

I'd like to know how to create a nice, impassible, two sided mountain range with them.

I would like to know how to make mountains in general really.

I would like to know how to make mountains in general really.
There are a few different styles of mountains. Like the slopes map in Tezuni's slopes TDM is one style. But for that you kind of just slop a bunch of 64x mod ter bricks together. But how would you make a mountain range with that? My biggest problem making a mountain range is where the mountains connect.

where the mountains connect
flatten it out a bit maybe? not sure exactly what you mean without an image
sounds like between two peaks though

What I do, is start with the biggest bricks you are going to use and stay in a grid.
Sketch the rough outline and where everything will go.

Then use one smaller size bricks and make the shape a bit smoother.
Always stay in grid, you don't want to see vertical holes in the mountain because you misplaced a brick by 1.
Keep making your brick size smaller and smoothing the shape.

Be sure to use the double stacked '8 cubes' at the end instead of the normal '8 cubes'.
Then you can use the steep 8 slopes so a player can't climb the mountain.

A player can run up the normal steep slopes, so be sure to use as many slanted steep slopes as possible.

Edit: Yeah yeah I hear ya, it's grid not grit

If anyone wants to correct me with the correct terminology, that would be great

Why would you stay in grit????

I'm thinking grid, not grit

Why would you stay in grit????

Because staying in grid will make sure everything fits together without holes. Like a jigsaw puzzle.

I don't see you helping you ducking forget! ;p
