Something seems really off about this Gabriella woman. Believe it or not, police officers are peacekeepers. In situations where they are outnumbered very quick decisions need to be made to end altercations. Sometimes a bad decision (striking down people who seem aggressive/ violent) is better than risking injury to a fellow officer. In this case, it appears this Gabriella made the stupid choice of acting impulsively and moving quickly, therefore causing the police officer to react. Guarantee you that if you were in the same position and felt threatened like those police officers may have, you would have reacted the same way. The one thing that I dislike about the police officers is the level of restraining they used, which could seem excessive.
Tl;Dr: The actions the police officers took weren't out of line, the severity of those actions may have been. Nobody knows the real story except the direct witnesses.
On sort of a side note: I don't see how recognizing her honor student status is relevant. You can be getting straight A's but still be a stupid person personality wise. The two concepts are completely unrelated. It's not a valid argument to prove her innocence.
