Author Topic: Dedicated BL eating resources?  (Read 4891 times)

Waste of money? I paid $200-ish for a dead server, with 10GB of PC133ECC (or so). That went into my server, with 4DIMM slots, equates to 4GB of PC133 ECC REG.

Also, it's running Serevr 2003 Enterprise... Neither a consumer computer, or a waste! It will run 4 instances of BL (Maximum) and also host an FTP site, a (small) webpage, and some smiple filesharing.

And when I used to host RTB, I would occasionally find Blockland eating ~500MB, and 50% CPU time on a dual 850/100 P3 setup.

@Bisjac- You take the maximum 32-bit adress area (4096MB) and subtract only for video memory- My system shows about 4032MB in the OS. It has a 65MB onboard ATI-Rage card.

@Trader- I offered to share my resources- You refused! :D

Lol, what ISP / service plan do you use Wizzard?

And yes, I still refuse to pawn out my programming services to you.

Pawn? Nah. Put to good, personal use: Yes.

I have Verizon Fios, 20/5. I was thinking of symmetric, but naaah. Too expensive.

I make a little cash giving about 1M of bandwidth to my downstairs neighbors and a PC for $50/month... Works for me!

 You are very lucky >.>

I wish the people using my internet would pay me. lol jj :)

If you ask nicely and provide services, how can they decline? Or, give them a virus.

Ha I wish. But hopefully my bl days will start back up again and I'll actually want to fight for my internet :)

Why fight when you can 0wn? :-D

Give their sorry arses a CD of MP3's with a copy of UVNC SC as autoplay.. Point it to you, take contol, and set their proxy at something like 127.0.0.1 :-D Voila!

So I noticed this thread, and I blinked when I read this:

Dedicated BL eating cookies?
That was not the proper thread topic, but still.

Hahaha nice sound effects.

But seriously, why does this happen? Is there anything I can do besides set a script which saves, restarts, and loads weekly?

With memory leaks, there're only two main options.

1) Get the code fixed. Unless it's happening to other people besides you and the coder can understand what is causing it, this is unlikely.
2) Write a script which saves, restarts, and loads weekly.

I have the same problem with Winamp, MSN Messenger (only the latest one), and Skype. It's got something to do with their interfaces that causes the leak, but I'm not too sure what. So, I have to kill them and restart every once in awhile.

Yar, that script is already done :-D

I have AutoIt coded to do it for me every Sunday at midnight.

4GB of RAM on any consumer Windows system is a waste of money.  2GB is plenty.  If you enjoy wasting money, please send some my way.

me too

Dont be a n00b. This is a SERVER, and I have pointed out that Blockland EATS RAM.

Anyhoo, the script works well. I just wish the problem could be fixed and not worked-around.

Maybe you shouldn't have it happen at midnight, that's when a lot of us are usually on.
How about 6:00 AM? >:D

Sure :-D I figured midnight EST was reasonable, on a Sunday :-

Typographical edit: Haha weasonable :-D
