most people have multiple colds in their life, so they can usually tell they have it when the symptoms come back
it would be the same way if someone had depression or something, too, but most people dont have annual depression
if i went to africa and thought i was having the symptoms of malaria id go to a doctor before telling everyone that i had it

but you can only tell you have it because you have some of the symptoms! you can have some of the symptoms without having a cold! you just wanna get out of school. so too bad! you have to go to school anyway, with your fake cold, since we can't afford to take you to a doctor to make sure you have a cold

most people are pretty skilled at making semi-accurate judgements on common household illnesses (because theyre so common in the first place), i dont think a bunch of tumblrians (or anyone in that matter) are skilled in mental disorders as an actual professional would be
