I think it had something to do with an old version of the forum in which you could edit your display name or something like that.
Tails has this too.

IIRC it was an old "Hide profile" option that was removed

Italic means their activity is hidden. You used to be able to change that setting way back, but it's been disabled. He had set his activity to hidden before Badspot changed that.

It means you can't stalk him in the Who's Online page. All the administrators have it, and it was an option available to users a long time ago.
